I would like to have the 1st page be one system plus title and info. All subsequent pages should have two systems unless the last page does not warrant it.
Welcome to the forum @larrywurtzel ! See here:
Set that to 2 systems per frame, and activate the “Scale by frame height” option.
Thank you so much, that worked! Now I am having difficulty moving the title and composer info into the appropriate position to line up with the one music system on page 1. Can you help?
What do you mean exactly? Please can you expand a bit, and ideally share some pictures or the project file.
How do I share pictures or the project file?I’d love to do this but don’t know how. The situation is that there was a very large space at the bottom of the first page due to the fact that there was only one system on the 1st page. Following your instructions I was able to center the music system on the page where I think it looks good, however now I need to bring the title and composer credits down because now the large space exists between the system and the title/composer name.
You can attach projects and pictures in replies here on the forum - you just need to have the right forum permissions, eg by reading other users’ posts for c 10 mins.
I’m sorry, I’m so new to all of this! How do I read other user’s posts?
When you first come to the Dorico Forum click on some of the topics that people have posted. You learn a lot by reading about other people’s issues.
Thank you David, Do I find these under “Topics” or “More”? or some other place. “Topics” yields many posts that I am too green to understand. I read a few that were designated as “Dorico”, they mostly just scare me and do not address my issues. My frustration level is very high. Where do I get help?
Ms. Harris, I am having great difficulty getting through all the requirements that are blocking my understanding of Dorico. My immediate need is to post the project and pictures. Standing in my way is some type of forum permission to be able to do this. If I had permission, I still would need to know how to submit these things. I have been advised to click on some of the topics that other users have posted. Where? I clicked on “Topics” and read some things designated as “Dorico” which are way out of my league. I believe that Dorico is a very powerful tool, but I will soon have to “eat” my investment and go elsewhere due to lack of my ability to get help. So many barriers, please help!
Click on Categories: Dorico, that will give you the (very long) list of only the Dorico-related forum threads (others are for different Steinberg products). Don’t be scared by topics you don’t understand. Although I’m a Dorico user from day 1, there are still many features I know nothing about, because I don’t need them in the music I write.
Just open a few the topics to get an idea of how this forum works. Spending a little time here and there will automatically increase your ‘trust level’, and give you the possibility to add pictures or other attachments to a post that may illustrate your question or remark. This delay is intended to prevent spamming and random nonsense, and it works pretty well.
Once you have the appropriate trust level, you can attach a file by simply dragging it into the edit box where you’re typing.
You can search the forum by clicking the magnifying glass in the upper right corner. Chances are, of course, that someone else already had a similar question, but it may take a few tries to determine the best search term. If you can’t find what you look for, just start a new topic (like you did here). Be prepared to encounter a great lot of very helpful and patient people here, including several from Steinberg, like Lillie Harris.
Regarding your original question: yes, it would be useful if you could upload a picture and maybe also your Dorico file.
Thank you PjotrB! I shall try again.
How will I know when I have attained the “appropriate trust level” and how do I post my project. What must I drag into this window? I have finished only one project and have not even tried to print a hard copy because the title and composer credits are in the wrong position. Ultimately I will need to create PDFs of several voicing of the project before I publish. I’ve been working on this arrangement in Dorico as a learning experience, but it has now been almost two months on a simple SATB/piano arrangement. In Finale all I had to do was click and drag a text box. It seems like this should be the way to go in Dorico. What am I missing?
This playlist on our YouTube channel will tell you more than you could ever want to know about how page layout works in Dorico:
These videos are a little old, and a some terminology is different now (we use the term “page templates” rather than “master pages” today), but all of the salient information still applies.
In short, you need to go into Engrave mode, look at the Page Templates panel on the right-hand side, and double-click the First page template to edit the text and music frames that appear on the first page of your layout. Note that when you edit the page templates, there are both left- and right-hand pages, and normally the first page is odd-numbered and therefore a right-hander, so you need to make sure you make the changes to both the left- and right-hand pages in the pair.
