With Most of the Tracking DAWs like Studio One, yes, you can draw the audio outputs from Dorico into your DAW in a variety of ways. How you go about doing this depends on your Computer, OS, and audio interface.
The simplest and most obvious method would be simple loopback cables (assuming the system has at least 4 audio outputs). Other methods involve advanced audio interfaces with built in loop-back rails, or some kind of software virtual cabling.
I.E. I’m on Windows 11, and I have an audio interface with plenty of outputs/inputs. I could easily use a set of patch cables (analogue or SPDIF) to route Dorico’s audio back into a DAW like Studio One.
Another option at my disposal in Windows is to use ASIO Link Pro to reroute audio streams through software. (A more recent thread where I walk a user through setting up ASIO Link Pro on a laptop for Reaper with its very basic built-in audio interface. This user doesn’t have the physical ports/jacks on his system to ‘hard-patch’ anything, but wants to route audio among different Apps).
Other options include Jack2, or a variety of commerical apps and drivers from VB-Audio.
If you’re on a Mac, I don’t know too much about the audio backend of that OS, but I’m sure there are options. I’d imagine the Mac OS might even have something similar to Jack2 built right into the OS.
So…
If you were to host the TXL Timecode plugin in Dorico, you’d need to treat Dorico’s Transport as the ‘Master’. You’d set up any DAW that can sync to timecode to do your audio recording. You’ll run a few tests to discover exactly what time-frame the first Dorico event hits your DAW, and establish that as the starting frame for the project in your DAW.
Early in the project, don’t worry about a tempo track in your DAW. Simply set it to the time code mode. If you wish, later you could export a ‘tempo track’ from Dorico and import this into the DAW if you want/need the edit grids and such in the DAW to match up with what is going on in the Dorico Master.
Do some searches in the Forums…there are a number of threads related to getting TXL going with Dorico.
