How do you enter a forward repeat?

For the life of me I cannot figure out how to enter a forward repeat on the barline indicated in red. I keep getting a repeat popover that I don’t know what to do with. Is there an easy way to just enter a forward repeat in the middle of a project? See example

With the barline selected, open the bars popover with Shift+B, enter “|:”

In the popover type |: . Also the side panel has two modes, click the “palette” icon at the top, then you can pick it from the barlines panel.
