How do you export a MIDI part from Cubase and be able to use into other daws

hi everyone,
I often create MIDI parts on my tracks as part of my workflow. When I want to export them, I usually right-click on the part and choose Export MIDI Loop. This works fine when I want to use that part again inside Cubase.
But the problem is that I can’t use those exported clips in other DAWs. The MIDI Loop format look like to be specific to Cubase. For example, if I try to import one into Ableton for example, it doesn’t work.
Is there a way to export MIDI parts from Cubase in a standard MIDI format so they can be used in any DAW? I know that when I export from other DAWs, I can import them easily into Cubase, but doing it the other way around doesn’t work to my knowledge, unless there is a sort way to acheive this. If so, What’s the correct way to export a regular MIDI file from Cubase that can be used elsewhere later?
I also tried using File > Export > MIDI File, but that exports all the MIDI data from the whole track, not just the selected part. What I need is a way to export only the selected MIDI part(s), just like MIDI Loop does , but in a standard .mid format that can be used in other daws.

The easiest way is to drag’n’drop the part from Cubase to the OS desktop. Cubase will export it as a standard midi file, which can then be imported into any other DAW.

Oh wow, that was so simple. I honestly didn’t expect drag and drop to work like that. Thanks :folded_hands:

It can even work directly from DAW to DAW.
