I have my overhead channels that I want to link together so I can do volume automation on both at the same time. How do I do that? When I hit the dropdown on the left side of the track, volume automation only opens for one of them, and then when I open the other and try to automate both, only one moves.
A couple of options:
- Merge the overhead channels into a stereo channel and automate that.
- Assign both channels to a VCA and automate that.
Or use Link in the Mixconsole on the Channels. It lets you pick which items to Link or not. For example you’d probably want to Link the Fader Levels but not the Pan Position
Got ya! I did that and the channels are linked, but does that mean that I can only automate the fader in real time and not draw it in easily? Ideally, I’d love to be able to draw in the automation I want on both channels and not have to do it on a group but on the channels themselves. Is this feasible?
You can still draw it in. I always have my overheads linked
Got ya! Are there any videos around of this? I can’t figure out how to make that work without clicking and dragging over both tracks and then holding (I think) command for them both to move. I already have them linked in the MixConsole, but they don’t behave together in the Project Window unless I’m highlighting both and holding a modifier. Is this how this works, or am I missing something?
I’m not sure. I’ll have to have a look. What happens if you quickly record a bit of automation with the mixer? Does it then let you modify both at the same time? I’m thinking I’ve sent them to a group channel in the past and automated that. I do that with the toms. It’s a while since I’ve done it,
