How do you put a 3 on a note?

How do you put a 3 on a note?

It looks unnatural without it

If it’s a tuplet (which it is, right?) then it should happen automatically, depending on your Engraving Options.

Are these quavers in a simple or compound meter?

hello Murray

its not tuplet …

Well it’s only going to display a tuplet number if it’s a tuplet.

Perhaps you could enter the quavers as a tuplet by entering 3:3 in the tuplet popover? (3 quavers in the space of 3 quavers)

On an engraving note, and sorry to be that guy, but it really isn’t unnatural to see the three quavers without a number in a compound meter. The opposite, actually.

Just in case there is some confusion with the terms being used:

The term tuplet is derived from the ending used in quadruplet, quintuplet, sextuplet, etc., but is used as a generic word to also include duplet and triplet. It’s roughly analogous to using the term cycle to cover unicycle, bicycle, tricycle, etc.

(PS His name is Daniel)

(Sorry for the late night, totally OT, and bad joke based on my bad English pronunciation… time for bed )

Here the Dorico file, just in case…

tree on a note.dorico (1.4 MB)

Jokes apart, @Madonna2025, can you explain a little more what are you trying to obtain? Could you please share a screenshot of an example, if you have some printed music that looks as you would like?

As in Fred Murray from the television series My Three Sons?

Molto apologetic edit:
I’ve just now consulted Wikipedia for information on Fred Murray. My memory failed me (not the first time!!) - his name is actually Fred MacMurray.

I read all posts in my Australian accent (apart from the other Daniel’s) and so that one took me a while before I remembered you are Italian…
