I use them, for sure but now days I tend not to try and make every colour so different but rather, when my notes are open in the key editor, I like or need to be able to differentiate what note belongs to what part, since MIDI channels can be duplicated.

I like all my tracks different coloured but there is not enough colours on the palette of cubase 11 elements. not sure about latest versions?
Steinberg were talking about it, in VST Live but I don’t know what that means, in relation to past efforts, that is providing a live setup.
Colours were behind the “e”, which is fine, but it must be accessible and work.
I am not sure about Elements as I am using Pro but I currently am at 137 project colors and seem to be able to add more. Custom made color set.
The biggest Cubase default set has 128 colors.
The color configuration thing is the same for all versions.
You can also change what each of those colors is after they’ve been added.
Colours, are great in the project page but for me, where they come into their own, is in the Key Editor, for MIDI notes, to differentiate between different instruments or parts.
I find that I don’t need too many variations in this regard, just enough to be able to show what is what but it would be great if there was some kind of templating arrangement, whereby you could create a list of colours attached to specific track or part names and have those automatically assigned when a project is created or worked on.
The Hub would be the place for this, among other more technical additions, such as Audio Connections.

you can automatically assign specific colours to tracks based on their name. You can do that with the Project Logical Editor and a macro.
I believe there’s a Youtube video out there by Dom Sigalas. It’s actually quite easy to set up. I’ve been using it for ages, it’s a real time saver. Let me know if you need help - I don’t want to derail the thread.
EDIT: Here’s how it looks like. Create PLE presets for each instrument group and colour
…and jam them all together in a macro and assign a key command
