How much am I changing volume with the Range tool?

Hi - Is there a display showing how many dB the audio is decremented/incremented when adjusting the node at the top of the bit created by dragging the Range Tool?

Thank you!

You should see the value while you’re changing it, but you can also (after changing it with the Range tool) use the Draw tool to select a point and you’ll see its value on the Info Line.

Thanks, @XLColdJ -

I’m not actually seeing values when I use the Range Tool, either on the automation track, or the info line.

I wonder if that’s a preference I need to change - anyone know?

I don’t see it on the Info Line while the Range Tool is active–only after going back to the Object Selection Tool (it’s in orange, with only Start and Volume) or the Draw Tool.

If you right-click on your Info Line you can see if Volume is checked.

While I’m using the Range Tool and adjusting the volume, I see something like this:

Thanks so much, @XLColdJ - that’s exactly what I (don’t) see either. (volume is checked, because I see the values when I select a point on the automation curve).

Until recently I did see that also (a little frustrating why it’s not showing up at the moment, but that’s a different issue) … so all the following is from memory only …

I believe I recall that the value displayed when making changes with the Range Tool (e.g., like the one you showed) was relative only to the baseline at the moment one made the automation value change - not necessarily the absolute dB, such as is displayed in the Info Line when two automation points are selected with the Object Selection Tool and Click-Dragged up or down.

So, for example, the next time one used the Range Tool and went to make another tweak at the same point, changes displayed started at 0.0 dB again … there was nothing except visual cues at that moment in time to say how many dB any subsequent changes were from the original baseline.

I prefer using the Range Tool to make automation point adjustments, but I’d like to see the value in the Info Line in the same way that it’s shown when using the Object Selection Tool to drag two points.

I hope I’m not misremembering all this and describing a problem that exists only in my memory!

(Now, off to see why the numbers when I change volume on the Range Too, like you showed, don’t show up for me any more  )
