Money – Started with Version Pro 8, now at Pro 9.5
Time – Pro versions – tremendous value for the money.
Investment Planning:
Add instruments, packs, packages – Wave Lab, etc. 
Paid $AU1300 ('was quite a bit of money back then!) for SX 1 in 2002 and all updates since, plus a few Steinberg ‘extras’. Upgrading to Pro 10 cost me $AU149, aussie dollar being worth 'round 73 cents US at the mo.
Can’t say I regret any of this, except maybe buying Halion Player some years ago…
