I am trying to write a melody with chord symbols above the copy and paste to a new instrument. When I do this, the chord symbols do not show up in the new part. When I hit shift/q to enter the chords into the new part, the chords are there and will not let me enter chords. However, they do not show up in the part in the score, or engraving, or in the print menu.
I have been a Finale person for decades, and heartily embrace Dorico but this task of cut/paste with chords is way more difficult than Finale to accomplish.
Probably easy once I learn how.
Help please!!
Welcome to the forum.
Chords are system objects. You only need to enter them once and then just choose whether to show/hide them on other instruments (and there are number of ways to do this depending on what you want the outcome to be).

Chord symbols are global objects in Dorico, so you don’t copy them, you just show them. See:
