How to add 3rd party libraries in Cubase 12

Could somebody please explain or point me to a Youtube or something to explain to this newb the basics of how to add 3rd party library choices already downloaded (Native Instruments’ Kontakt, etc.) to the “Instruments” choices line in the “Add track” box when you add an instrument track in Cubase ?

The only thing I see in the box is Halion. But I have several Kontakt libraries I want to select an instrument from.

I need to understand how to specify .dll and content locations and make the libraries show up when I create an instrument track. The only information I seem to be finding is for using the Steinberg “Library Manager” which apparently only deals with Cubase libraries.

Very confusing to me.

Thanks in advance. Have pity…

Hi,

Install the plug-in (NI Kontakt). If it’s VST3 plug-in, it should end up in a pre-defined folder. So you can just restart Cubase, it will scan the VST3 plug-ins folder and find the instrument.

If it’s VST2 plug-in, unfortunately NI installs the plug-ins to a unique folder. So you have to find the folder and enable its scanning in Cubase > Studio > VST Plug-in Manager > VST2.x Plug-ins Folder.

The latest NI Kontakt version is VST3 plug-in.

THANKS ! Very helpful Martin.
