I am struggling with a simple problem: I use spitfire appasionata strings and want to switch form legato to sustain with a key switch but mapped to a part change (I am not using tracks for this, just live playing in a band)
example part 1: sustain (chords playing), part 2 legato (solo part), part 3 spiccato. I change parts with a foot pedal…
I use parts because I have other keyboards playing different patches as well… this shouldn’t be a problem I thought…
this is so simple in gig performer, but I would love to do this also in vst live because for all the other programming vst live is much faster.
AFAIK that’s not yet possible. But it’s definitely an interesting idea. I assume you’re using a Global Layer for Kontakt/Spitfire Strings? I’ll relay that to the defs.
Try this:-
Have a shared layer of Kontakt in each of your parts.
In Kontact change your Group Start option from “start on key” to “start on controller” and use a quick control in VSTL to send the correct message
@CliveJ, did you tried and it works?
Nice idea, but there are too much groups to change.
I also tried with KSP in Kontakt and loaded preset - transform CC to notes. One single time I had it worked, but all other tries without a result, strange
Yes, I’m using a global layer with all my non-Steinberg vst’s like Pianoteq and spitfire samples…
I have found a workaround with bomes midi translators, which translates cc to notes. I use a empty layer with a cc set to specific number and output port to bomes virtual midi, then translates this back to a virtual port linked to my sampler midi port.
Check out Layer Sends (Layer/Layer Options/Sends). You can send anything at Layer activation (Part selection). That should solve your problem (and some), let us know if it does.
Cool, because I needed one Note for a Layer because my In Ear Monitoring Transmitter saves energy, when there is silence for a certain time and I have a Global Layer running with an arpaggiator who triggers a sound frequently.
BTW there once was a thread, where someone wanted to hear the Beat, before the Song starts. With this setup you can achive this very easily
