How to Add a Solo Staff to SATB

I’m working on a two-staff SATB piece. These are ‘section player’ staves.

I need to add a solo staff for an 8 measure segment during (midst of) the song. So, the staff should not be visible the entire song, just the 8 measures - or to the end of the widths, if necessary.

What is the best way to approach this addition? I found several different staff add methods in the manual, and confusing posts that don’t ‘nail’ the answer to my question. Still not sure what to use.

Thanks for your help.

Ossia maybe?

A simple divisi should work followed by a restore unison.

Ossia staves don’t sound and I’d like to hear it play.

And the solo crosses the other vocal parts. So, divisi wouldn’t work, right?

Of course it works. Try it!

Yeah, sorry. You’re right. I’ve been reading / learning and forgot that. So I tried it again. That works. But . . .

Q- I’d like the new Divisi line to be below (or above) my two SATB staves. It’s for a soloist and it doesn’t make sense for it to be in between the SATB parts. I don’t see any way to do that.

More Help? Thanks

So, never mind. When I look in the Print mode, the solo line IS above the SATB. Thanks.

OK, so now that I’ve entered my solo part, I click “Restore Unison” (next to “Change Divisi") it’s supposed to make the staff going forward from there disappear, right?
It doesn’t. Even in the Print Mode.

Unison isn’t fully restored until after a system (or frame) break. The solo staff won’t suddenly disappear in the middle of the system.
