How to add measures or bars?

I need to add measures (bars?), but if I select “write” from the top menu and then create bars, in the popover that comes up I type +20, but I don’t get ay measures added. I’ve also tried shift B to bring up the popover and typed in +20, but it doesn’t add any measures. I’m working in Windows. These were the two ways listed in the on line documentation, but neither works for me.

Do you have a time signature? If not, Dorico can’t add bars as it doesn’t know how long they should be.

Yes, I have a time signature (“C”, which is 4/4); however, what I did not realize is that the display was changed to only one staff rather than the whole score, and I assume that is why I couldn’t add bars/measures. Just tried adding and deleting measures with the control B popover and it worked well. Sorry about my not realizing the display had changed.

If you had a time signature, I would rather think you forgot to select a point first. Dorico doesn’t want to make assumptions - so you have to tell it, where to add the extra bars.

Do you mean you were looking at a Part layout, instead of the Full Score layout; or something else?

… or do you mean, you were looking at Galley View (instead of Page View)?

Since I don’t know how I got to the changed layout/view I can’t be sure, but I believe it was the layout view where tabs appeared, one as the full score and the other the label for the treble staff (I just have a treble staff and a bass staff). But I really am not sure how to get to these displays, but, on the other hand, I don’t expect to need anything other than the full score. I’m just working with barbershop music which normally has ja treble staff and a bass staff, although one voice may be put on a separate staff. Once I got back to displaying the full score I was able to add/delete measures easily.

You have 4 Tabs: Setup Mode, Write Mode, Engrave Mode, Print Mode.
In Write Mode and Engrave Mode you have “Pop-down menus” where you can swap between your Layouts. Normally that is the Full Score Layout and the Part Layouts.
If you have Setup your Barbershop music with two “Players” one for the high voices and one for the low voices, you can indeed delete those Layouts (as you won’t need them). This can be simply done by going to Setup Mode, selecting the Layout to the right and deleting it. This will not delete any music, you have put in.
