How to adjust system

I’m trying to move this coda section to the next line down but Dorico keeps pushing it to the next page when I hit move to the next system.

Maybe Dorico ‘thinks’ there is not enough space for an extra system.

You could try to reduce the inter-system gap in layout options, however that will affect all pages of the layout.

Yeah I tried something similar. I moved that bottom system up and it still pushed it over.

Could you share the project?

Create system break at end of mes60 then all in Make into frame …adjust then manually
No?

You moved around the systems by hand. Don’t do that. Let Dorico do the hard work.

  • In Engrave Mode select menu Engrave > Staff Spacing > Reset Layout
  • In the right zone remove the page override.
  • If you don’t need the copyright field double click the First page template, delete the copyright field, drag the music frame down, copy page layout to the other side, apply and close.
  • In Layout Options > Page Setup reduce the top and bottom page margins to 10mm / 0.4 in
  • In Layout Options > Vertical Spacing reduce Inter-system gap to 8 spaces.
  • Now insert a system break at the coda bar.

Thanks for the great tips! Now how do I get the coda measures moved to the right and reduce the length of the previous line (where the red line is)?

  1. In Engraving Options > Repeat Markers > Repeat Sections set the Default Gap before coda section at start of system to a high value e.g. 50. But this setting is global and affects the score and all parts!

  2. Rather than reducing the length of the second to last system insert system brakes at bar 44 and 47 (sorry I mean 47 and 51) to space the music quite evenly.
