How to allow different sample rates?

Hi.
My audio interface is 44.1kHz, and my Cubase project I’m working on is 96kHz.
In Sonar and Studio one, I have been working well under conditions where my audio interface and project do not match.
However, Cubase asks if you want to convert or allow the sample rate with a warning that the sample rate does not match.
If I choose the latter, the sound will play very slowly.

How can I hear the same sound without changing the sample rate of my audio interface or wav file?

You can’t. Cubase and interface sample rate must match.

If other programmes allow it they are presumably doing SRC on the fly which could tax CPU and degrade sound.
