Hi, this happens to me once a day at least. It happens both to a new a project or a heavy one. How do I check what is making my Cubase hang/freeze?
For “hangs” (freezes where no log file is generated), the only solution is a process of elimination. To do this, temporarily move the plugin files from the official VST3 or VST2 folders (e.g., C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3) to a folder on your desktop. Then, gradually add the plugins back into the folder in small groups, restarting Cubase each time, until the freeze occurs again.

Anybody remember a utility someone on this forum created? Perhaps called “vstscannermaster” or similar? It runs outside of Cubase and reports on how long each plugin takes to initialize. I couldn’t find it, but hopefully someone else remembers. But that report may reveal a plugin that’s taking way longer than the others.
If a crash or freeze happens even on a new project (empty) then it may not be because of a plugin, but a system setup issue.
It could be the graphics card or driver, a Windows setting, etc..
Always best to list full system specs in all tech issues reports.
One tip to try is disable the Nahimic service.
Another is to check if Cubase created a dmp file and send that here.
