How to condense two eighth rests into one quarter rest?

Is there a way to combine these two eighth rests into a quarter rest?

When you select the first eight rest, is the Force Duration icon blue, in the left panel?

If so, click it once, it should bring back the normal quarter rest.

I would be asking myself what I did to get the two quaver rests in the first place! (Something is already forced)

You folks are good! Yes, the Force Duration was on. Thank you for the help!

As for the question about how I got two eighth rests in the first place: Originally this was a quarter rest - then as I added notes a 4th below the melody - suddenly there were two eighth notes. I don’t know why. Perhaps I pressed the O key by mistake?
