How to copy/paste one measure which has tied notes w/o copying all of the notes they're tied to?

I’m new to Dorico and this is honestly driving me crazy. Is there a way to set it so that tied notes aren’t thought of as one note? For example, in the screenshot below I can’t seem to be able to copy one measure alone if I want to paste it, without it grabbing all of the notes that are tied to notes in that measure, which just messes everything up. Having to untie all of these notes, then copy it, then retie them all…there must be an quicker way???

Also putting in dynamics within tied notes. Is there really not an easier way than untying them all, putting in the dynamics and then retying them? I can see that there are some (i.e. very few) advantages to treating tied notes as one note, but for me the disadvantages far, far, far, far, far outweigh the advantages. For the love of god, is there a way to turn this off?

There is not a way to turn off this behavior.

For entering dynamics, you can go into Note Entry mode, put the caret anywhere you want within the tie chain, and enter a dynamic there.

For copying, you can do something similar. Instead of untying all of the notes, just put the cursor caret where you want to split the tie and type U to split the tie chain at that one location. After you copy and paste, you can rejoin the tie.

Thank you!

I don’t quite understand the latter point. If I click on the tie and press U, it unties all of the notes. If my cursor is just hovering over the tie and I push U, nothing happens.

The caret is the cursor that appears when Entry mode is on (Shift-N). I can assure you that wherever that caret is, if you press U, the note will be cut there, no matter if it’s in a tie-chain or in the middle of a note. The only occurrence where nothing happens is when you press U at the start of a note (or during a rest).

You need to be in Note Entry mode so that you can position the caret where you want it.

Ah I have to be in note entry mode for that too. Got it - thank you!

I learn something new like this almost every time I visit this forum!
