Hi! Is there a way to copy velocity patterns created for a beat or bar using the Key Editor or Drum Editor, or Pattern Editor? I’m programming drums and would prefer to copy the velocity pattern created for the first beat (having 5 notes) and paste it into subsequent beats or bars, rather than entering velocity values manually.
Velocity is tied to a note. I guess you can’t copy the velocity by itself but rather the whole note, including the pitch. However, someone here might have a workaround.
@ilmolto is correct - velocity is a parameter tied to a note.
A possibility is to create a groove quantize preset from a midi part. In the quantize settings you can make it so that only velocity is applied.
this absolutely can be done.
So you could take 135 notes for example played by a human and paste just the velocity data on to 130 odd note you inputted using the step input
- Take the MIDI part whose velocity pattern you want to copy.
- Drag/use that MIDI part to create a Groove Quantize preset.
- Open the Quantize Panel.
- Set Position = 0%.
- Set Length = 0%.
- Set Velocity = 100%.
- Apply that groove to the destination MIDI.
Thanks! It worked for me. This method works between tracks and MIDI parts.
But if I have an 8-bar loop and want the pattern on bar 1 copied to bar 3, 5, and 7, and the pattern on bar 2 copied to bar 4, 6, and 8, I believe I’ll need to split the MIDI part into 8 separate parts, apply the patterns, and then glue them back together. Is that correct?
Groove Quantize copies the pattern of the whole MIDI part that’s dropped onto it. Can it be selective?
I haven’t tried to work with the Range Tool for applying a groove preset to only a selection of a part. Maybe that works. Otherwise it’s cutting and glueing, as you said.
