How to create a drum map only for white keys

Hello there.

I am looking for a method to create drum maps where the notes visibility can be set to white keys only. I guess it would be something like a Scale Assistant inside the Drum Map, however this feature does not exist AFAIK. I am aware of the possibility to create lanes in the Pattern Editor, but I find the Pattern Editor unintuitive and I never use it. I am also aware of the Drum Map visibility option which is no help either.

Is there a solution for me?

I don’t think there is such an option. The drum map editor does not distinguish colors on a keybed.
I guess it’s up to you not to use notes with a # or b symbol in their name.

Edit: I am uncertain whether you are talking about creating a drum map or using a drum map.

In the Drum Editor there is a setting to only display the Keyboard ‘pitches’ that have something on them. This is for the Track and not a specific MIDI Part. Create a dummy MIDI Part that only has Notes on the white keys and stick it before or after the actual musical piece. I think this works even if you Mute the Notes and/or Part.

Yes, this could work, however as tedious as it gets. I am truly surprised this cannot be set within the Drum editor.
Thank you for the tip.

What I did (not for white keys but something similar) was create the dummy part and then include it in my Templates. So I only did the Part once, which you’d need to define anyway even if the capability was native to Drum Maps. So probably the same amount of work either way. If you don’t want to see it until/unless you need it, put it on a Track Version.

Unfortunately this does not work. If I open a new part, then the “Visible notes with events” gets a reset and does not reflect what notes exist in another part. :frowning:

Hopefully when I get to the studio I’ll remember to take a look at exactly what I did. It’s one of those do it once & forget things.

Sadly, that option is a toggle for each event. You’d have to select all events and do that or merge them into a single event.

Yeah when I checked mine it wasn’t working either, although it once did. But I was playing around with it and discovered a few useful things. First if you put Muted Notes on different pitches that will force them to show, which makes sense because in normal editing you’d want to mute & unmute Notes freely. But it does mean you can put Notes into a Part solely for visual purposes & not hear them. And then it turns out you can even put these ‘visual only’ Notes outside the boundaries of the MIDI Part and it still works.

Now they just kind of act like labels. You could use a Drum Map to give them custom names. Not just drum names but anything really. If say you were interested in music theory you could name them by their scale degree like tonic & dominant.

To use this in a workflow you wouldn’t want set it up every time so you’d want to save a ‘starter’ MIDI Part that’s pre-configured. I’ve never saved MIDI in the Media Bay, so not sure what the options are there. Track Presets would be another approach.

I’d probably put one on selected MIDI/Instrument Tracks in my Templates but use a Track Version to keep it out of sight until needed.
