How to create ambitus for vocal ranges

Good morning everyone,

As you know, in dorico it is not possible to create the ambitus symbol. It is recommended to use the “ambitus” font or the “tail” function.

I have purchased the relevant font, but it’s absurd: it really takes too much time. Therefore, I opted for the tail function, which is much faster but tremendously incomplete. Not only is it impossible to hide the measures, but if you want to hide the keys, you can only hide the G clef; the F clef, on the other hand, does not have this option. It is truly frustrating to have spent all this money and not have these simple resources available.

Do you think my reasoning is wrong, or am I missing the possibilities to achieve an optimal result?

It’s easy to create an ambitus in Dorico: just create a chord of two notes with no stem.

The purpose of an incipit is to show the original clefs (notes, and pitches) in the source. But if you want to hide the F clef in the incipit, then use the Invisible Clef, as you have done in the other staves, and put a new F clef in “bar 2” (the first bar of music).

Yes, but, how to add (in your example) the stemless quarter in the measure ? Have we to change meter locally ? (that is a precision for the Pasquale’s question of this thread).

There is a bar of 1 quarter before the Cut C time sig.

Not locally, no.

This is the best I have managed to achieve. But if only the part circled in red could be removed.

There should be a clef before the ambitus, otherwise we don’t know what the pitches of the notes are!

If you want a range like that, and only on one staff, then you would probably have to make a separate music frame, and put the two notes in a separate flow. Then filter the music frames accordingly.
