Huh? If I’m being honest with you, I know nothing about chords when it comes to music theory. I use Dorico to input the music in order to play it in the correct key for my instrument that I’ll be playing for a church service.
Well, those altered bass notes are indicating to keep the same chord but with a new bass note.
If you have the Fmaj7 chord in the bar beforehand then in order to see only the bass notes in the following bar, they would need to be entered as Fma7/E etc.
If you enter those chords as Am/E etc then it will also show the Am (i.e. Am/E) because it is a new chord - not just a different bass note.
So, you can do what I did and change those altered chords to be based on an Fmaj7 chord, or you can keep them as Am/E etc but add and then hide an Am chord on beat 1 of the second bar.
These two images were entered in each of these ways:
but the second one has the hidden Am chord.
I just tried typing “Fma7/E” and the “Fma7” portion of the chord symbol still shows. What am I still doing wrong?
Daniel, for whatever reason mine was switched to beats and NOT bars. TIL that I need to use the previous bar’s chord symbol to create these kinds of chords. Thanks so much for explaining that clearly!
