How to cut all tracks in one folder to the hit points of only one track?

I have 10 audiotracks with different instruments from a live recording and one track with a cowbell hitting on each quarter note.

All 11 tracks start at the same point in the project but the tempo is variable, changing between approximately 101.5 and 102.75 bpm.

Now I want to cut all tracks on each quarter note of the cowbell and quantize the slices to a quarter, then close and crossfade the gaps.

Is there a way in Cubase 13 to do this? I haven’t found a function like this.

When selecting all tracks and cutting audio slices, the events are cut to the hit points of each track and I can’t seem to chose one track to be responsible for all.

Put all the tracks in a folder and tick the “group-editing” button (the “equal sign in the folder header).
Selecting on event will then select all events in the folder.

Next hit the “e” to open the quantise panel:

In the quantize panel set your cowbell-track to the highest priority, cubase will now only use the cowbell hit points for quantising.
Then

  1. Hit Slice
  2. Apply Quantize
  3. Crossfade

DONE!

If you can´t find the quantize section in the toolbar, right- click in an empty space in the toolbar to make “quantize” available:

Great! Thanks for the exact description. I didn’t know that.

I have the German version of Cubase and it looks slightly different but it works.

Only I can’t seem to set the priority just to the cowbell track.

The tracks “Drums” and “Bass” are also set to a minimum priority of 1 star and trigger useless hit points between the quarters of the cowbell. I can reduce the priority from 4 to 1 star, but not to zero.

Which Version of Cubase are you using?
Do you have Cubase Artist by any chance? (I´m on Nuendo)

You also could try to remove the hit points of all the tracks you don’t want influencing the quantizing (turn of group editing temporarily to select individual events)

When you remove all the hit points from the other tracks, only the cowbell track should appear in the quantise panel:

Cubase Pro 13.0.51 from 2024-11-25 Build 326 (Intel)

I’ll try the workaround ….

Try setting to zero priority by swiping across the last star (not clicking)

That’s it! Swiping did it! This procedure worked like a charm now.

Thanks a lot, this was indeed a very helpful advice for me!
