How to Display Guitar Tuning? Or Insert a Special Character for string number in text.

(It’s not my area of expertise) You can do it using Dorico fonts. Start a Shift-X text. Right click and Insert Music Text. Scroll through the horribly long list until you find the Guitar section and there you will find the string numbers. You will have to experiment with font size.

Ok, thanks! I’ll try that too. Fortunately, I was able to copy and paste the string numbers from a website into the text frame, so it looks good!

Easier to use MusGluph font.

Many fonts include circled numbers. They are part of Unicode, starting at U+24EA.
① ② ③ ④ ⑤ ⑥ ⑦

Just to add to the discussion for anyone visiting this in the future:
1 Bravura and Bravura Text have circle numbers (image showing Bravura Text)

2 search this forum for “Circle font” discussions

3 as Dan said, MusGlyphs is excellent (for many music symbols.) (He created it so was probably a bit reluctant to give the URL MusGlyphs - Notation Central It can be easier to use, just type in text characters to specify a specific symbol (instead of thinking of Unicodes))

4 usually I put the string tuning information at the top of the stave, under each other if I had two to list. From a few publications I quickly checked, above the stave seems to be where they place it, but it probably does not matter (although below, it might get glossed over as part of the notation.)

5 using the circle around the number makes it quite clear for the guitarist, as that is how a particular string is usually referenced
