How to do side-chaining in Cubase?

Hello, I was wondering if there’s any way to achieve the effect of side-chaining WITHOUT having to depend on the “activate side-chain” function in Cubase.

The reason for this is because then I’m only limited to Cubase’s default plugins.

Is creating an FX channel and sending audio signals to that FX channel, the same as “side-chaining”?

Or creating a Group Channel, inserting plugins and also using the “Sends” from whichever audio signal?
