How to do that?

You know, folks, I’m the audio engine guy and have no clue about engraving. But a friend asked me and I could not answer, so could you please help my friend? Attached is a simplified project with 2 pages full of bars and on the third page only a handful. How can I force Dorico to squeeze the bars from page 3 into the other 2 pages? Thanks

You could decrease the Note Spacing in Layout Options to 3 and 5/8, down from the default of 4 spaces.

… or, leave the note spacing alone, and change the Staff Size to 4.

One way would be to reduce the note spacing under Library->Layout Options->Note Spacing.

… or set the Inter-system Gap to 7 1/2 spaces and reduce the top and bottom page margin to 10 mm to get more vertical space (you could also remove the copyright field in the First page template).

Thanks to all of you! Highly appreciated.

Have a great weekend

This simplest approach for my simple mind is to change the rastral size to the next smaller one. Everything then fits quite nicely on two pages. There are certainly many different approaches and one may not work for what is intended every time. Another approach may be to change the number of bars per system to 6 rather than 5.

Reducing the Note Spacing will make Dorico fit more bars to each system where it can, but still leave it flexible for ‘busy’ systems. That’s a better solution than locking a fixed number to every system in Casting Off, or manually squishing a few systems up with Breaks.

I agree and sometimes folks like to control the number of bars per system thus the option. :slightly_smiling_face:
