I’d like to share a simple trick that can be an elegant solution for gating real drum tracks.
My current project is quite cheerful in the drums, plain-vanilla. My additive trigger tracks (wanting both here - real + sample) were setup easily, working in perfection with a minimum of automation.
To gate the real kick/snare/tom tracks I just inserted the Cubase onboard gate plugin, activated the sidechain and fed it with a prefader send of the corresponding trigger track. That’s perfect gating within a few mouseclicks
This is so simple that I’ve overlooked it before, perhaps so did you
(Usually I’m doing it vice versa and trigger the trigger plugin with a previously conditioned signal (which might make more sense with complex material with lots of ghost notes etc…)
