How to get bar lines

I’ve used an orchestral template but I can’t get any bar lines to show on the page.

Complete noob here so any help is appreciated.

You have to first select a time signature. Right panel.

Just in case you haven’t done this before:

The manual has quite a good search process if you are new to Dorico.

Been staring at this for to long obviously.

As already mentioned, you probably want a time signature which will automatically add bar lines. If you don’t want a time signature, then select any note, press Shift-B then | (vertical bar) and you’ll have a barline before the note you selected.

I hope not, if you are a beginner most of Dorico will be a mystery until you learn how it works  I should think.

Have fun! (not frustration) …
ask here, the manual is a great resource, various videos to help you get started, various threads to help (search) including suggestions to learn specific information.
The Steinberg Hub which opens when you start Dorico has a Learn tab.

The First steps is good for a basic introduction guide if you haven’t done it already (or have forgotten bits of it).

Appreciate that.

I have the Beginner to Pro Dorico course by Ernesto Aguirre which I’ve been working through. I learnt to play everything by eye so never bothered with notation but now it’s become necessary as I’m trying to notate a full orchestra score into Dorico. So it’s a bit like the blind leading the blind or trial by fire at the minute
