How can I get crash dump in situation where Cubase freezes and becomes unresponsive but doesn’t crash ?
Or figure out what’s causing the freeze / unresponsiveness of Cubase ?

Hi,
Please use Microsoft ProcDump utility to generate a DMP file.
Please download ProcDump64 from Microsoft (~650kB) and extract the archive to a local folder on your harddisk.
Run Command Prompt (cmd) as administrator (right click and select “run as administrator”)
Navigate (in the Command Prompt) to the folder with the extracted procdump file.
For example:
cd C:\Users<username>\Downloads\Procdump
Note: the dmp file will be written into that folder.
Launch Cubase/Nuendo. You can work as usual. At any time, change to the command prompt and start procdump, to monitor Cubase/Nuendo for unexpected behavior (see next step).
Launch procdump64 via Command Prompt:
Cubase 10:
procdump64 -e -h -t Cubase10
Nuendo 10:
procdump64 -e -h -t Nuendo10
The -h option will write a dmp file in case of an application hang. This might kick in too early sometimes, in case some action takes a little longer. Feel free to skip the “-h” option, if you are only up for fetching crashes.
The option -e will catch exeptions and the option -t terminations of the application.
Share the DMP file via Dropbox or similar service, please.
Thank you so so much. Will try that.
I have the same problem with Cubase 12 as with Cubase 11. It still freezes and becomes unresponsive.
Here is CrashDump file. Could someone figure out from this, what’s wrong?
Cubase 12.0.0.205 64bit 2022.3.4 16.53.39.774-freezedump.dmp (1.9 MB)
I have the exact freezedump error message but my system does not freeze - if I just click any of the options to continue the system launches ok - so for me it’s just a question of not knowing if the system is stable and having the confidence to use it. When I examined the dump file it seems to be blaming shlwapi.dll for the error - I have reported to Steinberg Support but I am probably in a very long queue.

If you mean system as operating system (Windows 10 in me case), yes it doesn’t freeze and others applications works well. When Cubase freeze, I must launch task manager and stop cubase from there to close it.
Sometimes cubase works perfectly, all the day I work with it. Another day it works for a while and suddenly stop and freeze. Sometimes I can hear as the sound turns to an annoying monotonous tone when it stops working. This was the case also in version 11 and there was even no crash or freeze dump file created.
I tried all the suggestions I had found across the web with no success. Now yesterday I check “release driver when application is in background” setting, as I read somewhere that it helps with some Yamaha UR sound cards. I was not running cubase since then a lot, so I cannot say if it helps. I will see.
Sorry Romi, I just meant Cubase doesn’t freeze not the system - my syntax error!
Well just an update to this - I decided to completely reset Windows 11 - keep my settings and reinstall OS. I am now slowly starting from scratch and installed Cubase 12 first - then all the recommended software. Testing Cubase 12 with each new installation. So far so good - it is working with no errors!!!
