How to get Guitar to show treble-down8 properly?

Classical Guitar nowadays uses the standard treble clef without the 8 below.

Let’s say that I need that, though. I went to Edit Instrument Definition and changed the clef to Treble-down 8. This moved everything up one octave because I have Notation Options > Clef set to Respect Octave Indicator, which is needed because there are other instruments in the project.

If I simply move everything down one octave, a lot of the music goes out of range even from the middle C.

Changing the design of the clef doesn’t help because the violins need the standard clef.

Is there a way to get this to work?

Thanks!

Hi. If you change the design of the G clef ottava bassa (and replace it with a normal G clef), this should not change anything to the normal G clef used by the other instruments. Or am I missing something ?

Then just change your new instrument definition transposition to: Written middle C sounds a C4 (rather than C3)

But I need the 8va under the symbol. You’re not missing something, I probably explained myself poorly.

I quite like the sound of that! I will try it.

Another way is to move the notes to where you want them and change the octave on the midi instrument selected <> Peter Robinson

You can set the Octave Shift on the Clef in the Properties panel.

Nice! I always forget that the initial clef of a flow IS a selectable object!

Thanks!

No: a default clef is not selectable. You have to add an “override” one, even if it’s the same type.
