I have Iconica Sections and Players and also the full version of Halion 7 and use Dorico 5 Pro. I have installed John Barron’s playback templates for Iconica from the Dorico blog. When I open the Halion editor in the play tab it opens in Halion Sonic 3 instead of Halion 7. What do I need to do to set the playback template to use Halion 7? I am a complete beginner in this aspect of Dorico, any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Why would you want to do that? I 'm not sure whether you get the same UI if you open Iconica Sketch with HALion — I have HALion 7 and it’s more a complex sound designer tool (multi mode synth) than a vsti player… I find the names quite confusing, one could think there is a cheap tier and the pro version. I find those are two different products
Although I agree with Marc, but you can change the behaviour in Dorico’s Preferences dialog. See the option where you can set the preferred HALion plug-in or set as default to use the best available.
Thank you so much Marc & Ulf for your speedy reply’s. I must admit I find the naming of the variants of Halion a little confusing and it does give the impression of a pro and a cheap version. I guess what through me was that when I started a simple project using just a flute Dorico used Halion 7 but when I used John’s playback template it used Halion Sonic 3. Thank you Ulf for pointing me in the direction to the setting where I can choose in the future and for explaining things. And yes Marc, I see your point re just needing the vsti player etc. Thanks again guys!
You can (should) delete that version. Dorico 5 comes with HALion Sonic 7 !!
