How to Hide Unwanted Rests?

I was a Finale user. May I know how to hide the unwanted rest in second voice? I found several solutions online like rescaling it to 1% or using “remove rest”. I think it is still not the perfect solution . Is there a solution like “hiding rest in Finale”? I think the developer of Dorico must develop this option for composer.

select it and Edit > Remove Rest(s)

EDIT: also you can select the last note in that voice and check Ends voice:

Hi Vincent, and welcome to the forum!

Can you post a screenshot of the kind of thing you’re looking for? You mention rests in the second voice, and in most cases Edit > Remove Rests is exactly what you want here and is not a workaround.

I only can find “Remove Rest”

I used “Remove Rest” but it changed the direction of the stem

Sorry, my bad: I corrected my answer above.

Also:

end voice

Did you manually set all of your F#s (I assume) to be red? (Just wondering what’s happening there.)

Yes, removing rests will reset the stem direction. If you want them switched, select and press F to flip.

Given that notation, I think Dorico did the right thing – there’s no reason for those stems to be up if there’s nothing underneath. You can flip them back by selecting them and pressing F.

Thank you so much. It helps!

Actually I am writing for Guzheng but the sound is horrible so I use Harp to replace it. I do not know why some of the notes are red in colour… Do you know the reason? Thanks!

Because they are not possible on the harp with your current pedal settings. You need to do a harp pedaling change to accommodate the F#’s.

Thank you for telling me this! Do you know if I can add a new category for Guzheng technique rather than adding new technique on strings category??

@vincent_luk, I took the liberty of editing your topic topic to be clearer for others searching the forum. I hope you don’t mind.

No problem

I would recommend first searching the forum (“Guzheng” might be all you need), then starting a new topic if you don’t find anything. Otherwise your new…well, topic is likely to get lost inside this thread.
