How to import midi file into dorico 5

how to import midi file into dorico 5

Welcome to the forum…

It is as simple as File>open... select your midi file.

The midi import dialog that appears can be used to improve the quality of the import if necessary.

The same way you would open any other file in any other app.

Drag the file onto the app’s icon; File > Open; or Open With … in the Finder / Windows Explorer.

Thanks, I did but there is no sound to play

You need to attach a sound in PLAY view. Mostly Dorico asks you after importing the MIDI file:

If you missed this for some reason, you can choose instruments later on:

MIDI file created by Melodyne inside DAW (MixCraft). Tested the MIDI file in Band in a Box and an online MIDI player. The notes are all there. Tried “FILE / OPEN” and also “IMPORT.” There are zero notes on the staff.

Can you provide the MIDI file for people to test?

Chat GPT explained that Melodyne (within Mixcraft) exports a MIDI file which can be played, but which cannot be read by Finale or Dorico. The problem is that the note durations, attacks, or ranges invite notation programs to ignore all the notes. The solution is to quantize the MIDI file inside Band in a Box. Then it can be read by notation programs.
