Hello. I would like to input a double sharp. To edit it after inputting, I can select a note and then choose “Double Sharp” from the right panel, but is it possible to input a double sharp directly during the input process?
If I remember correctly, a double-click of the relevant key for sharp of flat has been suggested a number of times. I agree that this, or an alternative method that avoids having to access the key signature panel, would helpful.
A quick way for example to get a F♯♯ enter a G and while being in Note Input mode press ALT/OPT -
Something else to try:
The following works for duration-before-pitch note input, but I haven’t tried it for pitch-before-duration. Also, it works when entering the note pitch using the computer keyboard but it seems to not work when using a MIDI keyboard.
With the keyboard layout set to English (in my case, Australian, which seems to be pretty much the same as for US English):
activate note input (shift-N or double-click)
select the note value
press SHIFT + =
input the note name on the computer keyboard (A, B, C, D, E, F or G)
the same method can be used for entering a double-flat, using SHIFT + - .
SHIFT + = and SHIFT + - can also be used retrospectively. If it is discovered that a double-sharp has been omitted from a note, select the note and press SHIFT + =. It is the same concept as adding a sharp but the shift key makes it a double-sharp.
It seems that pressing + twice or holding down Shift doesn’t work for me. The Alt± method Vadian suggested worked. Thank you all. Then, how do I do a double flat? Thank you.
Select the note and press SHIFT + -
If you can add a flat to a note by selecting it and then pressing -, the procedure is the same for adding a double-flat except that after selecting the note hold down SHIFT and keep holding it while you press -.
Try Alt/Option hyphen?
This method is not working for me. I will try again. Thank you
The other way round, you have to respell the note upwards with ALT/OPT = (US keyboard layout)
As I have to respell notes quite often I mapped the default shortcuts to ALT/OPT +/- on the numeric keypad
Assuming you’re using a MIDI keyboard, if you play a G, followed by a G#, in a key with an F sharp, then Dorico will convert the G into an Fx.
