How to input the USB audio from the Virus TI2 synth in cubase 14 and record it?

On the lower menu of the comparison chart, choose Mixing > Direct Routing = Available for Pro not for Artist.

Thank you, this information will help any other users who are experiencing the same issue.

I’ll try but as you can see below, even using good old midi din cables, a midi track and a audio track (no vsti) i still have random audio alignement using the analog output ! :frowning:

Do you use it with USB audio or Analog output ? Would help if someone try it on his side and see if he had the same issue.

I record the majority of the VST instruments and external hardware into audio to manually manage any pre-ringing, post-ringing, latency and alignment issues.

Are you unable to manually align the audio event into the correct position ?

Yes i can align by hand only. Which is a waste of time and not very convenient.
You can’t use a fixed value for convenience, a fixed value could be set in the " track delay in millisecond " for example. That is unfortunately not an option as the value changes for each take.

As i am on the pro version, I will try to add the Virus as an external gear and see how it handles compensation in this mode.

It’s normal for the Virus TI to have latency. However i’m not exactly sure about the slightly randomized latency. I currently do not have my Virus TI setup at this moment so I am unable to test it for you right now. But this has never been a problem for me because I always record the Virus TI into audio and manually adjust it.

In the official Access Virus TI Setup User Guide, these are the recommended audio preferences for Steinberg Cubase (which may or may not help a little bit with your issue):

Can you please clarify what DAW software you used previously and whether or not if you experienced the same latency issues ?

I’ve checked the Virus settings : buffer size is on 128 and priority on high.

I’ve been on Cakewalk since v3 in the mid 90’s. Although being bought by gibson around 2010 the software started to decline and was finaly let down by the brand. It was then bought by bandlab but never got any significant improvement since then. It’s been roughly 15 years now, still experiencing the same UI bugs, buggy audio algorithms (vocalsync…), archaic External Insert plug-in, and it lacks now a lots of modern features.
In the meantime I’ve been on ableton too but wasn’t satisfied with the UI.

I was experiencing latency issue and random alignement problems on USB audio, not analog out. Which is now reversed on cubase where USB audio is working, analog not.

Were you performing a cycling range recording (looped recording) in your demonstration ?

I ask this because I know that Steinberg Cubase does not handle 3rd party MIDI plugins very well for sequencing as they have a tendency to go out of sync while operating in a ranged cycling loop. Apparently the issue is to do with “ASIO Guard” .

So I have 2 suggestions for you to try:

  1. Try recording the multiple takes of the Virus TI individually (without using range cycling)
  2. Test disabling ASIO Guard found in: Studio → Studio Setup… → Audio System → Activate ASIO Guard

If these do not work than I am out of ideas unfortunately and can only suggest for you to manually align your Virus TI audio recordings.

1 - All the takes were recorded individually yes, no loop used.
2 - Same issue with or without asio guard.

Thanks for all the help.
I will align manualy !
