I mostly write for strings and find it annoying that depending on which instrument I last edited my MIDI keyboard is restricted to the range of that instrument when I want to just play around and test some things. So my usual setup is with Midi thru off and an external VST host giving me a piano sound from the keyboard. I like the new Etude piano sounds that were included with the latest Dorico update so I am trying to use the stand alone Halion Sonic 7 as my host, which works fine - except that I can’t seem to find a way to get it to automatically load Etude (or any other sound) when it starts. How can I do that?
Would you perhaps find it easier to use a Sketch Strings Instrument for your noodling?
Simply load into the slots whatever you like and then save that as a multi preset. Like shown in the screenshot below, I called it My Init. Then do a right click on it and from the pop-up do Save as Default.
So simple - yet I didn’t find it
