How to make 4/4 display 2 quarter rests instead of a half-note rest?

You know how 4/4 meter is different than C: C is another way of writing 2/2. However, in default classical notation in 4/4 there are times where you notate things as in C: when you have a bar half-filled with rests (starting or ending on a strong beat) it is customary to fill the remaining space with a half-note rest (minim). However, Turkish traditional musicians like to see two quarter rests (crotchets) instead. I went to Library>Notation Options>Beam Groupings, but couldn’t find an option for doing that consistently. Do you have to do it manually at each occurrence using force duration, or is there an option for it?

It’s probably simplest to do it manually. Though you could do just one, then copy to other locations. I could imagine ignoring the problem until you have entered all the music, then force just one instance, select and alt-click copy it throughout your score wherever it is needed.

Thank you Janus! Are you a user like me, or part of the Dorico team? I wanna make sure I find-out if there is an option for it, or perhaps a way to create my own option.

Janus is a user like most of us, and a very knowledgable one. His advice is correct here as far as I know. Dorico team members have a different icon beside their name.

Perhaps I have a gap in my training: isn’t “cut C” another way of writing 2/2 and “normal C” equivalent to 4/4?
I understand the musical interpretation difference (C is a 4-beat bar with a 2-beat feeling). Maybe I’m just missing something simpler.
