I am trying to use Dorico (for Mac) with my Airpods, but, I can’t find a way to make playback occur through the Airpods.
Preferences/Play/Audio Device Setup does not work, the Airpods are not listed as a device I can play back through. This is true whether or not the Airpods were connected to the computer before I started Dorico.
The Airpods work fine otherwise.
What is the secret to getting Dorico to recognize Airpods as a valid playback option?

I’ve tried creating an aggregate device, it doesn’t work, Dorico still does not recognize the airpods. Unless I’m missing a step somehow, which is possible.

Are the AirPods listed – when connected – in Audio MIDI Setup.app (in /Applications/Utilities) as Bluetooth devices?

Okay, that looks fine.
What if you go to Edit > Device Setup, in the list of ASIO drivers, does the Aggregate Device get listed there and can you select it? If so, please push the Device Control Panel button where upon another little window shall open. Please take a screenshot of that window as well.

That solved the problem, thank you. I did not think to look for the Airpods in the ASIO Driver drop down menu. Choosing my Airpods in the ASIO Driver menu works and in fact does not seem to require choosing the Aggregate Device I created, the Airpods are there on their own.
I had instead been leaving the ASIO Driver as ‘Built in Audio’ and clicking on the ‘Device Control Panel’ and looking for the Airpods under the ‘output’ options. This procedure is how I get Dorico to playback through (wired) headphones.
If I may make a suggestion, it is strange to me that Dorico requires these (to me) non-intuitive extra steps for it to recognize which output device to use. I’m used to my software and my computer automatically recognizing which device to playback through. I’m sure there’s a reason Dorico doesn’t do this? But learning how to get the software to playback through headphones has definitely been frustrating. Dorico is the only program I’ve ever used that doesn’t just know which device to playback through.

You need the flexibility to choose specific Inputs and Outputs with a software like Dorico. As thousands of users will have thousands of partly very complex audio setups. Using a notation software through iPods I find quite unusual…

Until recently, I have been able to click on Device Control Panel [1] to open up CoreAudio Device Settings [2] and my AirPods would list there, then select them for playback if they were not already working with Dorico. I can no longer screenshot this happening because they now list in ASIO as anyone would expect, which might be because of a recent Tahoe update.
I quickly tested my original AirPods, along with two later models, and they work without problems with Dorico. I have not ever needed to set up an Aggregate device to use them with Dorico.
You could check firmware, but it’s meant to be automatic.
