When I used to copy music with Finale I split the screen 50-50% so that, I put on the half of the screen the source file (mostly PDF) and on the other half Finale, so I saw clearly the source and still had space enough on the screen to work with Finale properly. When I try the same with Dorico, the app takes about 70% of the full screen and can’t reduce dimension at all. Is there any way to solve this problem? I mean, can I reduce the dimension of Dorico anyhow?
Right click on the lower status bar of Dorico and uncheck some items that you momentarily don’t need: this enables Dorico to win some “shrinking space” for the window to be narrower:
I’ve tried this but the main frame is not being reduced:(
Strange. Are you on Windows or MacOS?
On Windows. At least Win10, can’t remember:))))
I have to deal with this all the time and also miss the flexibility of Finale. However, if you use two monitors, you can position the source(s) on the top (or bottom) of one monitor and Dorico on the other half.
Then the only problem is if you have to access the Properties Panels because they take over Dorico window. So, on the other monitor you can create collapsed Dorico windows that show only the write and engrave Properties panels and access them that way. Or even have another complete window set to Engrave mode and work back and forth between them, a work style that many have found efficient. I would say that anyone who is works with on-screen sources may need a second monitor to feel completely comfortable in Dorico.
The window doesn’t resize itself with changes to the status bar. Hiding some of the items just allows the window to be made narrower – the usual way.
It’s really strange! Your screen looks like 50-50% indeed!
I wonder - do you not have a 4K monitor?
Have you hidden some of the elements from the bottom tool bar? That’s sometimes the only way you can reduce the window.
I’m not quite familiar with parameters, but my laptop is half a year old and even if not gamer quality, it works pretty well with all basic apps. Including Dorico. This is my only issue. (I mean, apart from the fact I need to spend a few years to get really familiar with Dorico )
I think I did and still…
My actual solution is to push Dorico to one side so that a small part of it is hidden, but knowing more and more shortcuts I actually don’t need them so much… Hope it makes sense.
Probably it is 1080p and not 4K. Basic laptops don’t usually have 4K screens. This might explain why you can’t collapse the window to 50% width of the screen without hiding some toolbar elements.
On Windows (10) doesn’t the WINDOWS key plus the left or right arrow key push the active window to the left or right half of the screen?
Yes, it does, what is a great achievment after Win9 and previous. And it works well with all basic apps I am using but Dorico:)
Perhaps my screen size has something to do with it, but WINDOWS + the arrow keys works fine on my machine.
