How to merge, or convert, Scores' notes

I imported a MIDI score and manipulated the track in the MIDI editor. But when I lock at the notes in the Scores Editor the notes looks rather messy.

Now I want to know if I can manually modify the notes in the square below into dotted quarter notes and leave the 1/8th note to stand alone (and get rid of the stupid rest which has squeezed itself in there):

I know everyone hates to hear it, but the Score Manual has the info you need.

To improve the display, you must configure the interpretation options.

Go to Score Settings>Staff>Main and activate the interpretation options highlighted the pic:
