How to move event an exact amount

Hi,

Anybody knows if there´s a fast way to move an event an exact amount let say 5 PPQ or 10 ms?
I want to align an event to another track.

Thanks

See the nudge commands in the Key Command dialog, and note how your grid and ruler are set.

I know the nudge commands but can I set a fixed value? i.e type the desired value and hit nudge? In your screenshot I have 10 ms or 100 ms but what if I need 45 ms?
If I need to start hitting the arrow to reech the value it´s almost the same as positioning it by hand moving the event with mouse.
I´m thinking of something like the track delay function where you can just type a value for the whole track, but in this case to move one event.

If you’re aligning an event to another event, select event 1, Locate Selection, then select event 2 and do Move Event Starts to Cursor.

Also something likeusing the PLE.

A perfect solution doesn’t exist, I think. If you often nudge by the same values, macros like steve suggested would be the best probably.
If it’s different everytime you could for some convenience have shortcuts for select next and previous grid type. Sadly there are no shortcuts for 1ms 10ms 100ms 1000ms directly, but you can change it up or down quicker by that.

(Nudge type has to be set to “link to grid” for this to work).

I have them bound to ctrl pageUp/pageDown, so I can hit ctrl+right a couple of times, hit ctrl+pageUp for denser resolution and hit ctrl+right some more until its where I want it to be.

Another thing:
You can “Enter Project Cursor Position” (Shift+P for me) and enter an absolute position ( twice cursorRight for quickly changing to ms), and after that “Move Event Starts to Cursor” (Ctrl+P in my setup).

There’s no +0:15 shortcut as in davinci resolve or something like that, maybe some day I hope.

cheers

I (temporaly) change the Snap Type to “Event”, then drag the event until it snaps to the desired track’s event. When done, I change the snap setting back to “Grid”. Works perfectly for me.

You could Select the Event and just change it to the new value on the Info Line.

Yes, kindly please use the Info Line for this:
grafik
You can double clikc a vlaue to enter new digits with the keyboard.
You can hover over a value with the mouse and use the mouse wheel.

Most of these solutions work for aligning event starts but not for aligning waveforms, thanks anyway!
The easiest way I´ve found is:

  1. Position cursor in the event I want to move and hit a shortcut for “Snap point to cursor”
  2. Position cursor in the other event desired point and hit ctrl + L “Move event start to cursor”
Can´t figure it out how to put everything in a single macro or PLE.

Protools have a function to do this and it is really important for the mixing workflow.

Well, you mentioned “event” in your opening post, not sample alignment. Kind of throwing us a curve ball there.

because it is an event movement but not from its start, cause the start could be anything.
Everything could be solved with a simple command as “move selected event xx ms”.where you could insert the value., it could be in the info line. changing the starting value is not the best option as one need a Calc to add or subtract the amount.
a Ple is not useful because the amount is never the same.

You could Split the Audio Events where you want them to line up, and then align the beginnings of the Events. After that drag the lower left corner of each Event to the left to restore the previously cut audio.

@diegoalejo15 Do you know about the command, snap point to cursor? Have you played with it as a way to accomplish this? It would also work in combination with what others are suggesting.

All the replies in this topic are correct, so there are many ways to accomplish your task… I think you have to change your method to one of these.

Yes, he has.

oh, I see. that’s what the OP’s doing. I’m goin’ to bed!

nice workaround… but it´s easier my method I guess.

Yes pro tools has that amazing tool, you can move things so precise like a surgery but unfortunately Cubase doesn’t have it yet, I asked them before but unfortunately Cubase doesn’t care what the customers want or need the most simple request like moving the channels on the mixing console screen if you ask for then they don’t do it its crazy

In case someone is interested I´ve found how to do it, just select the range between the waveforms and apply this macro:
macro

just be sure that the event you want to move is to the right of the other one and that it´s track is selected.

This is what I do too.

One other thing folks may or may not know is that you can click+drag on fields on the Info Line to change their values. So, for example, if you click on the Ticks field in Start Position you can move the Event at a very high resolution.
