How to move from eLicenser to Steinberg Licenser?

Hello everyone,

hoping that someone here can help me.

I tried to upgrade my Cubase Pro 12 license today and bought an update in the Steinberg shop - the same I’ve bought for years, Upgrade from Pro n to Pro n+1. The last update I bought was Cubase Pro 12 Update from Cubase Pro 11.

In my eLicensing this shows up as Cubase Pro 11 (Upgraded to Cubase 12 with Steinberg Licensing). But when I copied the download activation code, I got “You entered a Download Access Code for a product upgrade but you do not own a license to which this upgrade can be applied. Please contact your local support team.”

So I read up about the move between eLicenser to Steinberg Licenser, and now I suspect the tool wants to see the license in the Steinberg Licenser, not eLicenser.

Help center article 4414539809426 describes a workflow that seems to not work. The download assistant seems unaware of eLicenser licenses.

And article 6232567486098 directs to a voucher that might be in my account but isn’t there.

After starting Steinberg Activation Manager, and download Assistant, everything auto updated. Now my Cubase 12 Pro installation can’t find its license anymore, and all that still works reliably is Cubase 11 Pro - with the eLicenser.

How do I solve this?

If you are running Cubase 12 then you are already using the new licensing. 12 doesn’t use the eLicense at all & never has.

What you are seeing in the eLicenser is telling you that your Cubase 11 license was used to upgrade to 12 and can’t be used for that purpose again. The eLicense lets you run Cubase 11 and lower.

Can you post a screenshot of your Activation Manager - that’s where you should see the Cubase 12 and up licenses.
