How to navigate playing technique to affect playback?

I thought I had this figured out but my notes are not as complete as I hoped. I’m working on creating a handbell template. I know others have done this though I want mine to have a working LV and damp I worked so hard to get in my Dorico trial project. So, some questions:

One annoyance in my trial project was that when I asked for a popover for “lv” there were two entries that came up. I carefully always picked the top one. Instead of two I would like there to be one. Is there a way to list playing techniques by their popover text?

When I find the existing one I’d like to take it over for handbell use. What in a playing technique has to match the corresponding entry in the expression map? The name? Something else?

How or where do I specify which expression map is in use?

Library → Playing Techniques. Just find the one that allows you to delete (trash can is enabled) and nuke it. If a technique is active in your project, you won’t be able to delete it.

With the remaining ‘lv’, you need to bind it to a Playback Technique. If you haven’t created a Playback Technique for ‘lv’, you’ll need to do that first. Then back in the Playing Technique dialog, Select your ‘lv’ and choose your new playback technique in the Playback Technique dropdown.

After all that, you can now use it in an expression map.

How or where do I specify which expression map is in use?

In Play mode, on the Track Inspector, you will see ‘Ex. map’. Assuming you have an expression map in that project (or saved as default), it will show up in that dropdown.

Hope that helps.

Yes, that is a help. A few details linger.

Is there a way to just find the one without clicking through them all?

I guess I missed a step in my route of information. What field in the Playing Technique has to match what name in the Playback Technique? And what in the Playback Technique must match the expression in the expression map? Are techniques in Playback and Expression limited to the predefined list?

You said there were two ‘lv’ in the popover, so there should be 2 playing techniques in the list – no need to click them all.

Anyway, as much as I hate to abandon you, I think you should probably step back and read some documentation about how Playing/Playback techniques function and their usage in expression maps. Dorico has a great channel: https://www.youtube.com/@dorico
