I flattened a arranger cubase project and by mistakenly saved the flattened file to the arranger project file, thus loosing my arranger cubase project.
I renamed the latest .bck file to .cpr and recovered 90% of the data. Is there a better way to flatten and avoid these mistakes?
Hi tmat,
Do you mean another way apart from choosing “New Project” as the destination for the flattened chain?
If so, I suppose you could save the project, then save a new version of the project prior to flattening, so you always have the pre-flattened version.
Perhaps it’s easier to learn from this mistake and just use the “New Project” destination in the Arranger Editor.
I know I learn my best lessons from mistakes.
Hope this helps.
I used to always used to do the same way you did by making 2 projects one for arranger and one for flattened.
But today I hit the save (CTRL + S) by mistake. So I think the 2 project concept is something which has a high probability of error.
Loosing a big project like this is completely a disaster for real professionals.
So I was thinking that 2 project concept should be changed by implementing a better and user friendly method.
For example:
The arranger and flattened project should be inside the same project and there should be an option to switch views and see either the arranger view or flattened view in a non destructive way.
Once an arranger track is flattened and if we need a change, we can either do it in the flattened view or switch it back to the arranger view and do the change.
Once the arranger changes are done and flattened a 2nd time onwards,
a question should be prompted to ask user whether to completely reset the existing flattened view with the new changes or whether to update the new changes to the existing flattened view.
The 1st option will completely recreate the flattened view and 2nd option should only update the existing flattened view without damaging any additional changes made in the flattened view.
If user has multiple arranger chains, flattening a new chain, should give users option to create a new flattened view or updating an existing view.
Have you considered using the arranger chains to finalise what you want before flattening? The chains are all in the same project and you can flip between any of the chains to hear what is going on. Changes in any of the arranger events are reflected in all of the chains that include those events.
I find this workflow provides enough flexibility for me and when I’m happy I flatten away.
What you don’t get is a visual representation of each of the chains in the timeline ie as per a flattened view. If this is important to you then maybe you should tag this thread as a feature request.
Yes I too make multiple chains and hear and finalize before flattening.
Since I spend lot of time making the arranger tracks I don’t wanted to loose it at any time even by a mistake when flattening.
I have tagged this as feature request.
