How to recreate bata style notation I used in Finale in Dorico

I now have run into the issue where when I play anything on the midi keyboard, nothing comes out in Dorico. I have attached the settings below for the percussion map, preferences, and the percussion playing techniques. Can you see anything wrong with what I have done or if I missed a step along the way?

Hi Kevin @KevMott - sorry I can offer no help directly myself…

However, I remembered John Barron is holding a livestream ‘Discover Dorico’ session on YouTube tomorrow, specifically covering Percussion and Drum Set Notation…

He may well cover some aspects/clues specific to, or will help with, your use-case. You could ask questions in the live chat, if you can attend.

And of course, if you can’t make it live, watch out for it to review/replay soon afterwards/at your leisure…

Bob

I can’t figure this out and am going to attach the photos of what I have done so far, and maybe someone can see the error I’ve made or help me out.

  1. Create new project
  2. Create a new percussion kit
  3. Add a place holder instrument, in my case the conga, to the center line. I only want there to be one line per drum, with notes above and below the line as you can see previously in this post.
  4. Go in and edit percussion playing techniques
  5. Assign a technique for Open tone below the line, regular note head
  6. Assign a technique for Slap above the line, with an X

Then I went and tried to create a new percussion map.

  1. Click the plus on the bottom
  2. Found C4 and mapped it to be:
    1. Name: Open
    2. Instrument: Conga
    3. Techniques: Open 1
  3. Repeated with the slap on E4, Open, Conga, Slap.
  4. Saved as a new template

Then went over to play

  1. Found the track inspector
  2. Changed the percussion map to my new map, Bata Drum Test

Finally went back into the main area and everything I hit on my midi keyboard comes out as a note head on the bottom line. Below is what came out when I play C4-G4

I appreciate whoever has taken the time to read this and hope someone can help me figure out what is wrong! Creating a two tone instrument is really becoming a headache.

Do you want to send me your test file and I’ll have a look? (j.barron@steinberg.de)
Which sound/library are you using for playback?

Hi John, that would be great! I will send it along to that email address shortly. Thank you for your reply.

Edit to attach the project here. Sorry for not doing so earlier!
