How to remap Drum Machine drum pads to fit with my keyb

Hi

I have M-Audio Axiom 25 midi keyboard. I am trying to remap its 8 drumpads to fit the placement of the Drum Machine drum pads. I tried right clicking the individual drum pads, but I cannot see any MIDI learn feature.

Could someone push me in the right direction, please? I tried asking several AI models but they just confuse me more than they help.

Thanks in advance

It works the other way around–you assign notes to the 8 pads on your MIDI controller, and then you can use them to trigger the pads in the Drum Machine.

Those eight black grids above the pads in Drum Machine let you move between different sets of 16 pads.

Hello and thanks for replying but I’m not sure what you mean by assigning 8 pads on my MIDI controller.

Those 8 black pads on your keyboard–they each can be assigned to play one MIDI note. You set them (using the editor for your keyboard) to match the notes of whatever pads you want to trigger in the Drum Machine (C1, D1, E1, etc.).

Thanks. I downloaded a software called Enigma. And it looks like I can change the values of my 8 drum pads on my MIDI keyboard. Now I need to figure out which values to change the individual drum pads to. In Drum Machine each pad has values like E1, F1, F#1, etc.

The image on the right is the info of my upper left drum pad of my MIDI keyboard. And I want it to control the E1 drum pad in the Drum Machine.

The note named “C1” has the number 36. “C#1” has number 37… and so on.
In your screenshot it is the line “Parameter | Note On/Off | Note | 50”. The 50 needs to be replaced.

Awesome, it’s working now. Thanks to both of you!
Enigma was not cooperative, so I found a way to remap the drum pads using the keyboard itself.

As an alternative approach, instead of (or in addition to) changing the MIDI Notes on the hardware you can also remap the Notes by using a Drum Map.

I appreciate the input, but how is this method better for me?

I’m wondering about the pros and cons of both methods before diving into the method you are suggesting.

It may or may not be better depending on your workflow.

Some potential advantages

  • Keeps everything internal to Cubase so you can leave the hardware settings at their default
  • You can create different Drum Maps for different purposes, for example one for mapping a drum kit and another for general percussion & a third for tuned percussion
  • Can be used to remap both Instrument/MIDI Tracks & Drum Tracks (although last I checked using one on a Drum Track is a bit hidden, but easy enough to setup once you know where to find it)
