How to remove single tremolo articulation from Tablature but not notation

Hello,

I’m working on a guitar notation + tablature part and want to know how to control what articulations and performance techniques appear in the tablature and which don’t.

Here, I’m hiding the tied note in the tablature to clean up the clutter. The duration is indicated above in the notation so I’d rather get rid of it. However, because there’s a tremolo indication on the note, I get a “phantom” tremolo in the TAB which I’d like to remove. I have no idea how to do this.

I also have a palm mute indication in the notation above, but it doesn’t appear in the tablature. I’ve had a hard time figuring out how to get this to appear in the tablature as well.

Hi @Bryan_T,

  • Alternatively, and to have also the P.M. showing in the tablature, you can use the usual workaround: create a duplicate player whith almost the same music. The first guitar shows only the Notation and the duplicate guitar show only the tablature.
You can then shorten the tied note in the duplicate guitar: this gets rid of the fantom tremolo.
The P.M. will be shown as desired. Just rename the duplicate player (with an empty space to make the label invisible), and assign the player name as staff label in Layout Options. And to avoid automatic numbering, put the duplicate player into a group:

Dorico file example:
duplicate guitar for custom look of tablature.dorico (1.4 MB)

Thank you for the response. I do not seem to have the option to set the Y axis of the tremolo.

I also don’t have any “Collision Avoidance” option. Under “Vertical Spacing”, the only sub menus I have available are “Ideal Gaps”, “Minimum Gaps”, Vertical Justification", and “Staff Visibility”.

Select the hidden tied note in the tablature, not the tremolo itself.

(Anyway, my second suggested method solves this in a different way)

I see: you have Dorico 5 (I believe). That Option was called Minimum Gaps (if you observe my screenshot, you will see that corresponds.)

And also here: my second suggested method doesn’t require deactivation collision avoidance.

Thank you for bearing with me. Selecting the note itself did show the Tremolo Y setting, and setting it to something ridiculous (like 500) successfully pushed it off the score. It’s good to know the hack with the duplicate player! I can see that being extremely handy. It would be nice to see a more elegant solution for hiding/revealing specific elements between the staff/tab in future updates to make edits between the two a little more streamlined, but I’m sure this is an edge case scenario.

Thank you for your help!

I’ve figured this one out! In case any future people have the same issue, you can get palm mutes to automatically mirror in the tablature without having to duplicate the player and create an independent tablature staff. Change the default behavior by going to Library > Playing Techniques > Category: Guitar. Select Palm Mute. At the bottom of that window you should see “Tablature:” with two buttons. Make sure “Always shown” is selected. Now, when you put a palm mute in your score, it will also show in the tablature.
