How to sample a section from a song and create a loop

Hi

Not had Cubase 15 Pro for long so I’m very green. I’ve been playing with the sampler and would like to use a section from a song to create a loop to work with.

I’ve got the sample, trimmed it etc., but cannot seem to find a way to add this as a track. I exported it to Groove Agent, but it was far too short when added to the drum pad and no amount of messing with the divisions etc. worked.

Is there an easy tutorial or something I could refer to? I’ve had a look on YouTube but nothing seems to fit what I’m trying to do.

Your help and expertise is greatly appreciated.

When I use a sample I just put it on an audio track ,if it’s a drum loop the length of one bar or whatever I would just click n drag to create more copies to the length of whatever I want .I’ve never put a loop in groove agent .

Sorry I had at times put samples in the old groove agent and all I did was click drag n drop the sample onto one of the drum pads in groove agent and groove agent automatically loaded it .

I don’t know how you put it on the audio track. That’s what I’m struggling with

Just drag an audio file from the file explorer (or MacOS equivalent) to the project window.

So load the whole song as a track and then chop it about? Is that the method?

I said I was very green, so apologies if these are really basic questions?

How do I get the bottom trimmed sample into track 1, is the question…

Just drag it should work,I’m not home now so I’m not on Cubase ,

If you drag it onto an audio track ,you can do all sorts of editing there with all the mouse and pointer tools, scissors tools, mute, change volume,re-size ,time warp etc. I do all my loop editing on the audio track ,if you are unfamiliar with the sample editor like I am .like I said just edit on the audio track every body used to do that only a few years ago ,I think the sample editor as only been around since Cubase 8 or 9 maybe .

If you don’t get a reply from anyone regarding sample editor do like I said do your edits on the audio track.

Or try asking Google about the sample editor,it is normally quite good Regarding basic questions, unlike humans lol

Yes load the song ,then add another blank audio track and load your sample/loop onto the audio track and edit the loop at the correct position in the song then it will all make sense.

If you are chopping a section of your song out to edit

Cut the section with the scissor tool and drag it onto another audio track by holding down the controll key and drag down with the mouse ,this will stop it from moving out of position .

Then select that piece of audio by clicking on that piece of audio then go to menu / audio/ bounce selection click yes and all that gumff .

That piece of audio is now independent of the audio it came from and edit it till the cows come home if you mess up ,you can just go back to the original audio from wence it came and close the gap and start again.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll have a play about and see how it goes.

:+1: all the best
