I am making a full score with several flows.
I would like to create two kind of parts, InC and InB for the trumpet in all flows, but I would like the full score to show only one part per flow, either InC in one flow or InB in another flow.I can use the full score layout settings to display either the InC or InB trumpet, but I would like to know if there is a way to set up individual full score layout settings for each flow.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Edit: see the much better solution by @HeiPet, in next post.
A.
to have such flexibility, one method would be to have second player (Trumpet in C) with duplicated music. Then using Manual staff visibility at the beginning of each flow, choosing which player to show.
Doing so you maintain the whole music for all flows for both trumpets, so that you can have a part in Bb and a Part in C.
Dorico file example A:
mixed trumpets-manual staff visibility.dorico (657.0 KB)
B.
Another method (maybe not as flexible, and not what you want) would be - also with a second player (Trumpet in C) - and activate it only for the desired flows (deactivating the Trumpet in Bb for those flows). Doing so, you will delete the music for the trumpets that are not present in one specific flow, but you can create a custom part Layout that has both trumpets (in Bb and in C) checked, but you will have Bb or C, depending on which flow they exist.
Dorico file example B:
mixed trumpets-flow assignment and mixed layout.dorico (610.5 KB)
I would try a different approach:
Have one player with two trumpets, one in C and one in B flat.
Write in the instrument you want to display in the score.
Create two layouts: One for Trumpet in C and one for B flat.
Use the Clef and transposition overrides for each layout to show both trumpets in one layout in B flat and one layout to show both trumpets in C.
Here’s a short example of what I mean.
Test Trumpet in Bb and C.dorico (668.5 KB)
This is a really elegant and nice solution, @HeiPet! Or better said: The Solution
Thank you for sharing your excellent approach with me.
The way you taught me was perfect for what I wanted to do.
I would like to try to do this on other transposed instruments like clarinets and horns!
I think what I wanted to do could be done more easily by using the Clef and Transposition Overrides dialog that HeiPet mentioned, but the way you showed me how to show and hide each flow was new to me and very helpful!
Thank you very much.
@Hiroshi_Nakamura, please mark @HeiPet’s (elegant!) post as the Solution so it gets bumped up in the thread for the benefit of anyone searching this topic.
Thank you so much for letting me know about “Solution”, I’m a beginner in using Dorico and this forum, so I’m grateful for your help!
